Jackson County County Court
Jackson County has a County Court, which sits between the Justice Court and the Circuit Court in Mississippi’s trial court hierarchy. It handles mid-range civil cases, misdemeanor criminal matters, and serves as the Youth Court for Jackson County.
What the County Court Handles
The County Court has jurisdiction over the following types of matters:
- Civil actions where the amount in dispute is between $3,500 and $200,000
- Misdemeanor criminal cases
- Felony preliminary hearings
- Eminent domain proceedings
- Criminal appeals from all municipal courts
- Civil appeals from Justice Court
- Youth and juvenile court matters
Juries are available in County Court. Appeals from County Court go to either the Chancery Court or the Circuit Court depending on the nature of the case. The County Court is a court of record, meaning a court reporter is present and a transcript can be made of proceedings.
Court Schedule
County Court begins on the second Monday of each month and runs for approximately four weeks.
